Department of Sociology and Anthropology

Statement on Diversity and Racism

Our faculty are committed to diversity and will do all we can to make our department an anti-racist space during these turbulent times. We ask all current and potential students to share with us how we can best support you. Email SociologyAnthropology@MissouriState.edu with your comments and your questions.

This summer, our faculty are working together to provide resources for students and the community on ways to address issues of racism in society today. Information about these activities will be posted on this website when it becomes available.

Anthropology programs

Anthropologists seek to understand the many varied peoples and cultures of the world — past and present — and how they came to be. We offer a major and minor for students interested in better understanding our diverse world.

Sociology programs

Missouri State is one of very few universities that offers an emphasis in public sociology, which focuses on community engagement. Our program integrates sociological skills into course work and research, providing opportunities to work with local organizations.
