The Electronic Newsletter of the Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Criminology

From the Desk of the Department Head - Karl Kunkel

 Dr. Karl Kunkel

It is difficult to believe another year has passed so quickly since our Spring 2007 Department Newsletter.  So much has changed over the past year as the Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Criminology continues to change and move forward.  Briefly, the Anthropology Program recently received approval to offer a Master of Science in Applied Anthropology to begin in Fall 2008, the Criminology program initiated a Master of Science in Criminology with 16 graduate students, and the Sociology program is developing a new emphasis on public sociology.  More details are provided elsewhere in this electronic newsletter.

We added five new full-time faculty this year- four in Criminology and one in Sociology.  Profiles of these new people are provided by a link on the left side of this newsletter.  Further, we awarded five scholarships to some outstanding students and various faculty are involved with exciting and innovative research, scholarship, teaching, and community outreach projects.

I certainly hope you find the material contained in this electronic newsletter interesting and informative as we attempt to maintain contact with both alumni and other friends of the Department.  I once again invite you to keep us informed of your activities and accomplishments by either submitting the Alumni Information Form or sending an e-mail to DSAC@MissouriState.edu.

As the Department grows and changes, it certainly is an exciting time for the Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Criminology at Missouri State University.
