2008 Department Scholarship Awardees
Julianna Cameron is the 2008 recipient of the prestigious Walter O. Cralle Scholarship. Julianna has a double-major in criminology and sociology. She is active in the Criminal Justice Society, and has been both the Philanthropy Chairperson and Public Relations Chairperson for Alpha Delta Pi sorority. In addition, Ms. Cameron has been involved in a number of fund-raising activities and served with several local public agencies. For example, she organized a Teeter-Totter-A-Thon and a 5K Walk/Run to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House. She also is a board member of Ozarks Fighting Back, and worked with local youth in the cityELEMENTS program to promote drug-free activities in the community.
Brandon Parker received the 2008 Societal Studies Scholarship. Brandon is an active member of the American Chemical Society and the Criminal Justice Society, and will apply for the FBI’s Honors Internship Program for the summer of 2009.
Amanda Flowers is the 2008 recipient of the Donald D. Landon Public Affairs Scholarship. She is a double-major in criminology and sociology with a minor in psychology. Amanda is a member of the Missouri State University Honors College, volunteered with the Hosanna Project, which establishes sports camps and backyard Bible clubs in low-income housing projects, and regularly volunteers time to English as Second Language (ESL) classes.
Ellen Ritter won the 2008 Dr. Lloyd R. Young Scholarship. She has a double-major in sociology and psychology and is very active in various organizations related to student life at Missouri State. Ellen intends to earn a master’s degree in counseling at Missouri State and then practice counseling wherever she is needed.
Department Begins a New Scholarship for Students - The CRA Applied Social Scientist Award
Due to the generosity of Christina Ryder and Associates, LLC, the Department established a new student scholarship opportunity, the CRA Applied Social Scientist Award. Ms. Ryder owns and operates a local business providing research, technical writing, creating writing, grant writing, and evaluation services to various individuals and agencies that serve others. The first recipient of the CRA Applied Social Scientist Award is Andrew Bardol. Andrew is a double-major in criminology and sociology. Andrew has volunteered at many public agencies, including West County Care Center and Bethesda Nursing Home in St. Louis, the Ronald McDonald House in Springfield, and the Special Olympics in both Springfield and Joplin. His primary career goal is to work in federal law enforcement for the Federal Bureau of Investigation or the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Scholarships provide tremendous aid for our students, such as Julianna, Brandon, Amanda, Ellen, and Andrew.
