 The following faculty joined our Criminology Program: Dr. Pat Gartin

Dr. Patrick R. Gartin received a Ph.D. in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland in 1992.  He previously was on the faculty at the University of Florida, the University of Nebraska-Omaha, and spent eight years as a Chief Statistical Analyst with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in Washington, D.C.  He joined the facility at Missouri State University in 2007 as an Associate Professor.  Dr. Gartin’s interests lie in criminal justice policy and program evaluation, primarily in the areas of law enforcement and drug abuse.Dr. Brett Garland

Dr. Brett Garland received his Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2007 and joined us as an Assistant Professor.  Dr. Garland’s research interests are in the areas of offender rehabilitation and reentry, gangs, hate crime, correctional management, and terrorism.  He also recently completed a study in job satisfaction and organizational commitment among educators, caseworkers, psychological staff, and medical personnel in the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

 
Ivy Yarckow-BrownAfter a year away from Springfield, Ivy Yarckow-Brown returned to Missouri State  as an Instructor in Criminology.  She received a Master of Science in Criminal Justice, with an emphasis in violence, sex crimes and restorative justice from the University of North Texas in 2003.  In 2005, she became an honorary member of Alpha Phi Sigma.  Ms. Yarckow-Brown completed additional graduate courses in the field of leadership and public administration and has attained several credits towards a Ph.D. in Criminology.

 Paula Rector

Paula Rector joined our faculty after receiving a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from Northern Arizona University in 2002.  She taught Introduction to Criminal Justice, Criminology Theory, and Human and Cultural Relations in Criminal Justice at Northern Arizona University.  Paula worked with domestic violence survivors at a transitional housing facility in Flagstaff, Arizona.  Her research interests include feminist criminology, race, class and gender inequality, and the criminal justice response to pregnant drug users.

 

 

 

 We also added a new Sociologist to our faculty:Michael Stout

Dr. Michael Stout has a Bacehlor of Arts in Sociology from Temple University, a Master of Arts in Sociology from Penn State University in 2003, and recently completed the Ph.D. in Sociology from Penn State.  Dr. Stout joined Missouri State’s Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminology in the Fall of 2007 as an Assistant Professor.  His research interests are in the area of stratification and civic engagement.  He also has a strong interest in various elements of public sociology.
